Tality Corporation Provides Sponsorships to the University of Edinburgh

LIVINGSTON, Scotland----Oct. 11, 2000-- Tality Corporation, a subsidiary of Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NYSE: CDN) - announced today that it is providing $500,000 in sponsorships to the University of Edinburgh for its top electrical engineering students.

The Tality Five-year Master Program will provide internships, mentoring and financial assistance with costs at the University. Students selected for sponsorships will be mentored by engineers at Tality's Livingston Design Centre at the Alba Campus in Livingston, Scotland. Prior to beginning their fifth year at the University, students will participate in an eight-month paid internship. This will provide them with the opportunity to work on research and development projects in technologies such as advanced system-on-a-chip (SOC) for wireless and broadband communications, and advanced algorithms for communications intellectual property.

``Tality's sponsorships will give our students real-life engineering experience,'' said Professor Peter Grant, head of the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering at the University of Edinburgh. ``Students will have the opportunity to work alongside, and be mentored by, top engineers at Tality. In addition, Tality will help them offset the expense of obtaining an engineering degree.''

``We selected the University of Edinburgh for this program because its Electrical Engineering Department is the highest-rated in Scotland,'' said Colin Adams, Tality vice president, and general manager of the Livingston Design Centre. ``By offering mentoring, on-the-job design training and financial assistance to high-achieving students, we can help them reach their potential more quickly. In addition, we effectively increase the number of qualified candidates for engineering positions at Tality when they graduate from the University.''

Since 1998, Tality has offered internships to selected Edinburgh University engineering students during their fourth year of study. The new sponsorship program formalizes the relationship between Tality and the University, and broadens benefits for the students. Initially, six Tality sponsorships will be awarded annually. Each sponsorship has a potential value of $30,000 (20,900 GBP) over a student's five-year university attendance. To retain eligibility, students are required to maintain A and B grades in all maths and engineering courses. For more information about the sponsorships, contact Anne McKelvie at the University of Edinburgh, +44 (0) 131 650 2248. Tality also offers sponsorships in other areas of the world. Colleges interested in the program may contact Catherine Boyle at 44 (0) 1506 595022 in Europe, or Tom Triolo at 858-618-398 in the U.S.
